oh yeah. here's the call i sent out to a few boston email lists.
also, i guess we'll be dropping them wednesday and thursday, and i think it might be cool to do try to get some press. (indymedia's easy, i'll do it if no one else feels like it, but if anyone has a digital camera, that would rock. also, i dunno if eric or laura wants to do something with free speach radio, or if we want to call any corporate media.)
NOTE: This is NOT an official call., only a draft. We are not yet sure exactly what we are doing.
Call for Banner Drops in Boston in Solidarity with RNC Protests
For the next four days, the Republican National Convention and the protests in New York city will be covered by corporate and independent media around the country and around the world. Hundreds of thousands of people are in the streets, showing their anger at the policies of George W. Bush and the Republican Party. In NYC, people are demanding an end to unjust wars and an end to the lies coming from the White House. People are demanding protection for the environment. People are demanding restored civil liberties. People are demanding policy that favors the poor and middle class over wealthy corporations. People are demonstrating to draw attention to countless other important issues.
Many of us here in Boston who can’t make it to New York want to show support for those protesting the Republicans and make the issues they are bringing up more vicsible to to the people of Boston, most of whom will only hear about the RNC from corporate media.
Instead of organizing a solidarity march or rally, we are calling for decentralized banner drops and postering all over the city of Boston. Lets use everything from cardboard to sheets to tarps, with paint, permanent markers, and photocopies to make dissent visible in as many places as possible. Lets work to make every bridge, overpass, building, telephone pole and wall a reminder of why people are in the streets in NYC and a reminder of why George W. Bush and the Republican party should not rule our country!
Sponsored by Pirates Against Bush
About Pirates Against Bush: Our name pretty much says it all. At protests, we dress as pirates, in order to get more attention from media and passersby, and just to make things more fun. Politicly, we range from reluctant Democrats to anarchists. The core thing that unites us is the we believe there are far better alternatives to what George Bush and those currently in power have done for our country and the world.
