Also, the MBTA is going to start "random" searches, called behavioral profiling. Many say (I think including the MBTA) that they will be searching EVERYONE during the DNC. If you see anyone get searched, or are searched, immediately contant the National Lawyers Guild at 617-277-7335 and tell them, because as soon as it is reported they are going to sue.
the frog says: where are my rights? the pig says: I ate them. Can't you see this is a national security event? Geeze you aint got no rights. the frog says: I am moving to Canada where my biggest fear is litter and Hollywood influence.

Pirate Dan ARRR and I took the commuter rail back home from the PAB meeting on Monday Jully 12th, we came across TRANSIT WATCH notices about the bag checks on every seat on the train. This is what it says on the front: ---------------------- TRANSIT WATCH UPDATEJuly, 2004 MBTA launches inspections of carry-on items. To maintain the safety of our passengers, we ask you to support our efforts by bringing fewer items aboart MBTA buses, subway, and commuter rail trains. From now on:All MBTA customers will be subject to security inspections of any carry-on item. Your commute may be briefly delayed. Please allow a little extra time for a potential security inspection of your handbags, briefcases and/or other carry-on items and for other security measures. Your patience is appreciated. (T) Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ------------------------ and on the back it says: ------------------------- See something? Say something.TRANSIT WATCH (617) 222-1212(picture of a well-meaning looking african amarican policeman) "Our goal in initiating carry-on inspections and other security measures is to safeguard the riding public and thereby deter and prevent terrorist activity."-MBTA Police Chief Carter Due to concerns raised by the Department of Homeland Security and other law enforcement agencies, the MBTA is taking steps to make the transit system safer and more secure. Working together, transit employees and customers can provide a highly effective first line of defense against terrorism. Speaking of searches (but not with the MBTA) my bag was searched by an undercover F.B.I. agent while I was sitting with CaptainLaura at Government Center. It was kind of funny because I was on the phone checking in with my mom and the dude came up to me (with a wire in his ear, you know the clearish curly ones) and showed me his badge, told me he was a fed (so actually he could be CIA or Secret Service, but I am almost sure he was FBI) and said my bag looked unusually heavy, and could I show him what was inside. He said that last night people had taken bricks from Govt. Center and that's what he was looking for. My mom asked me to give the agent the phone so she could talk. After I told them I was 16, the man with the agent (I assume also with the FBI) talked to my mom. She asked him why they were searching me, said I was a good kid, and told them to treat me well. It was very easy, the man just made me lift up my sweatshirt (which was on top) and push around the other stuff (including a tape recorder, a cow bell, and a videocamera) and then said thanks, thats all, and they left (after giving back my phone, and without searching Laura's bag). Oh and I should mention that I agreed to the search, especially because my friend had just been arrested around the corner at the Fleet Center and I knew the police (and FBI etc) wouldn't be taking any shit. I still say don't consent to searches by MBTA officials. Speaking of MBTA going out of their jurisdiction (with these searches) I noticed throughout the week that often the MBTA police were the ones walking with/standing by our rallies and marches. It was hiliarious because they finally got a job that gave them power, and it was a huge ego-stroking event for them.

I've heard that the T is ceasing and desisting with the unconstitutional searches.
