so. as much as i don't like having to ask people for money, i think it may be necicary eventually. this time the banner making stuff wasn't a big deal, since we had sheets, and all i spent was about $10 for cable ties and grommets. but if we do it again, we'll probably have to buy tarps or old sheets and more paint. the idea of a benifit show has been around for a while, and then kindof died. i guess the biggest problem was finding a space. since i'm sure if we have a time and place, getting bands to play will be fairly easy, since we all know so many. i mentioned this before, but i'll print T-shirts, but we need a bunch of money first so we can order blank shirts. maybe some people can buy their shirts before we order them?

i will buy the shirt in advance (assuming it would have a pirates against bush logo on it). i could probly find some other people to buy it too. we should keep looking for somewhere to have a benefit show because i really like that idea.

I would definitely purchase a shirt in advance (I actually have some plain white shirts I could probably give you to print mine on). Ben, are you able to start printing now? In the next newsletter should I ask if people want them and tell them to send money or should I wait until you have all the materials you need?
Also the benefit show...I know someone out there has a basement or a backyard and there are places that will let us play for free, once school gets back in session start asking around and hopefully one will come up. Once we have a venue it's all much easier...does Spontaneous Celebrations hold shows? What about the Harvard Radio Station? I know that both have before, will they host ours? I can try and call them and get the info. If we want to hold it pre-election (obviously) we should try to get a venue in the next few weeks so we can book bands far in advance. Then if we promote and flyer like mad we can probably get a good crown. We just need a place!

yep, i can print shirts now (er, as soon as i get shirts) so go ahead and put it in the newsletter. how about $20?? i know thats kindof pricey, but union made shirts are at least $9 and ink isn't cheap, and it would be nice to make some real money off of them.

How about 10$ if you provide your own shirt and 15$ if you don't? Or is ink quite pricey?
Thanks so much for all the work Ben! I kiss your Pirate boots.

good idea, it would be cool to have a cheaper price if you have a shirt i can print on. i think $15 is kind of low. the ink is probably less than 50 cents per shirt. but the $9 for blank shirts doesn't count the shipping. and there will be the occasional shirt that i screw up by smudging or dripping on or something. Plus i'd like to get some money back for the screen and emulsion. so thats already like $11-12 a shirt. and i dunno what other people think, but i'd rather have PAB get more than $3. (plus if we aamke a bunch to sell at an event instead of doing them to order, and there are a few extra, we'll lose more than we gain.) damn, dealing with money is sucky and complicated.
but no need for my boots to be kissed since the silkscreening part is fun.

i agree with both of you about having low prices and making money. so here is what i think: the lower the price, the more we will sell. the higher the price the more we will earn. that's the more obvious part. what i think we should do is sell them for 20. if they arent selling, we can drop the price, especially if people complain. if they sell like nuts, then we keep the price. also, we shouldn't forget the option of a sliding scale.

Okay, I agree with 20$ (how maybe 15 or 10 if they have their own shirt?)
Do nuts sell well? Maybe we should be selling nuts?

PS: I was just kidding about the nuts. Anyways many people are allergic and Pirates with hives and breathing problems are never good.

ok, sorry, i got an email back from a wholesaler who has the same shirts for less than $6, but we have to order at least 24. so i say we lower it back to $15. or whatever people think. and we have to figure out how we're going to deal with collecting poeple's money and ordering like $150 worth of shirts.

I'm gonna send a letter out and say "we will not order these shirts unless we have at least 15-20 people who are willing to pay us and get a shirt so email me!" so we can at least find out if there is enough interest to buy them in bulk. I'll go do that now.
Love, Capt'nLaura
PS: Eric what was DNC-mike's email? Just tell me or something. He might want one.

ok, i've been seriously diorganized about gettting prices on shirts. i have an email from another guy (yes, one who works for a t-shirt place) who says since we're a non-profit and all, he'll probably give us an even better price and he was really nice. BUT: he needs to know what sizes and colors we want before he can give us an exact price. so what do people think:
a. white shirts with black ink b. black shirts with white ink c. grey shirts with black ink d. red shirts with black ink e. navy shirts with white ink. f. hot pink and neon oragne striped shirts with glow in the dark ink
also, should the image be on the front or back?
i'm thinking we coud do 2 different colors if people want. i'm personally a fan of black and grey. white is also cool, and it'll probably be a dollar cheaper. i can get other ink colors too, but it can be hard to track down anything but black and white ink thats cheap (er than 16 bucks a quart). and unfortunately, no i dont actually have glow in the dark ink, and to my knowedge, there are no pink and organge union made t-shirts available.
and to laura: please add to the email that people need to let us know what size they want. sorry, thanks.
csw people: what do y'all think about selling them at school. (just announce @ assembly and have an arder form or something at lunch.) i bet we could sell a lot.

Yeah I bet we could sell a lot. We could announce it as a fundraising event for PAB, and then invite them to check out the website and join us if they want. That would probably be very successful.
and.
A and F
...I can't beleive F doesn't actually exist. whore.

i think we should stick with black and white shirts, but if a bunch of people want navy or grey or whatever, we should do that. basically whatever will make the most money. my top choice would be a black shirt with white writing.
today's empires, tomorrow's ashes.
